01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

A bowl of gentle soy sauce broth holding medium-thin noodles, tender chashu, bamboo shoots, and leafy greens alongside half an order of egg-and-scallion fried rice is the signature order at Chokoken. The lightly textured, fluffy fried rice balances the straightforward clarity of the ramen broth, creating an old-school combination that satisfies lunch cravings without any fuss.

Beyond the staple noodles and rice bowls, the small shop is well suited for an afternoon beer over pan-fried sides. The dumplings arrive with deeply browned, crisp edges and an unusual filling that folds sweet corn into coarse ground meat, pairing naturally with the small complimentary snacks served alongside bottled beer. Another popular dish is the soy-sauce-fried yakisoba, loaded with pork and sweet onion, best eaten with a sharp dab of Japanese mustard on the side.

Behind red laminate tables, counter seating and booth-like tables welcome both solo diners ducking in for a quick lunch and unhurried evening visitors. Payment is accepted in cash only, so having bills or coins on hand is advisable before stopping by.
